Influences? | Adedayo Dada had a early exposure to art, his Dad been a graphics Artist gave him most of the encouragement to venture into this noble procession. However, he rejected his dad's offer of studying engineering or graphics art.
Having come across works of Artists such as David Abduljabba, Francis Denedo and Abu Jima, his resolve to study sculpture became stronger. David Jabba and Emmanuel Ekpeni gave him a gentle forward push that led him to the prestigious School of Art and Design, Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, Nigeria where he equally met the likes of Olusola Kukoyi, Josheph Ehigiamusoe, Emmanuel Oladapo Afolayan, Ibrahim Issin Momoh, Friday Idugie and Taiwo Sullayman among others. This great opportunity and strong resolve saw him through the stress and tension of the school. Against all odds, he emerged as the overall best graduating student in the School of Art and Design which barged him the covetous Rector's Award of Excellence when he graduated in the year 2002. He had since then been into full time studio practice, experimenting with different materials of metal, welding, fabrication and engineering. Dada's childhood little knowledge of engineering never left him during the voyage of his academic years. The knowledge gave him leverage in the carnival world where he got involved in float designing and construction, putting all his artistic and engineering knowledge into play to make beautiful kinetic floats. Been an adventurer as his zodiac sign ''gemini 39;' indicates, he considered travelling as an integral part of gathering knowledge, believing everything he sees, everyone he interacts with, every job he does while away from home is an experience that further boldens the strenght of his works. His involvement in carnivals had taken him across many states in Nigeria in order to challenge and channel a new course in the business which he has successfully achieved thereby making him one of the few most sought after. He even travelled as far as the city of Paris, France just to see notable works of great Artists in the custody of the Louvre Museum. Dada is currently an attaché member of the Universal Studios of Art, a member of Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA), Artzero group of Artists, Foundation for Black Heritage (FOBHE) and the Information Resource Center, Public Affairs Section, United States Consulate, Lagos. |
